Chairmans Reserve was first blended in 1999 and was overseen by the then Chairman, Laurie Barnard who conceived a quality rum which was blended using continuous and potstill rums coming on stream after ageing. Local demand has been phenomenal and the brand has expanded internationally, where the versatility of the rum makes for great cocktails.
Chairmans Reserve recently won Gold – Best in Class at the International Wine & Spirits Competition and Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Maturation: In American oak casks – Jim Beam, Jack Daniels and Buffalo Trace – separately by still, then blended and reintroduced to oak for a further six months to marry.
Age: A blend averaging 5 years.
Alcoholic Strength: 40% abv
Tasting Note: Good dark brown amber colour. The pot still richness comes through on the nose with sweet honeyed fruit and spicy vanilla from the oak. The palate is balanced, with a mellow but complex mix of ripe raisin fruit, tobacco and spice. The rum has a long enjoyable finish. In St. Lucia Chairmans reserve is best enjoyed with coconut water but can be drunk neat or with a chaser of your choice.
Rich dark amber in color, typical pot still richness comes through the aromas carried by whiffs of cooked banana, caramelized fruits and spicy oak derived vanilla. A wellbalanced mid-palate provides structure around flavors of chocolate, golden raisin, tobacco and clove, which dissipates over a long creamy finish.
