Spourtiko, a unique Cypriot grape variety, derives its name from the Greek word Spourto, meaning to explode or burst. The name captures the essence of this grape, as its defining characteristic lies in its remarkably thin skin. The delicate outer layer of Spourtiko grapes is so fragile that it seems almost poised to burst at the slightest touch.
Producer
We are a small family winery located on the beautiful village ofLetymbou, 14 km east of the city of Pafos, Cyprus. Our family carries a viticultural history of four generations. The vineyards cover 28 hectares of land which are located at an altitude of 400 600 m and are influenced by the warm Mediterranean climate and the considerable rainfall (620 mm / year, on average). The surrounding hills, thecrystal gypsum,limestoneandquartz rich soils, together with the uninterrupted exposure to the winds of the valley, modify the local mesoclimate.
We have the privilege of being the only winery in Cyprus that sources grapes solely from our privately-owned vineyards. Our long tradition in viticulture has been and still is providing fruit to a considerable number of wineries locally. The fact that the quality of the fruit is completely under our control, allows us for the production of terroir driven wines of high distinctiveness and personality.
