By the sound of it August Kuentzmann Damm moved his family to Barcelona just as much for the lifestyle as to avoid the Franco-Prussian War in 1872. The family was originally from Alsace and their traditional business was as a brewery. Despite the upheaval they must have settled reasonably quickly in their new country because a mere 4 years later Estrella Damm brewery was fully established.
