To the palate, Angoris Merlot Villa Locatelli is light, harmonious, with a clean finish.
Malolactic fermentation and 5 months aging in oak barrels give to this wine a great drinkability and almost sweet tannins.
Starting from the 1900s, Merlot is one of Friulis most important red grape varieties. But, the huge minerality of the Isonzo Valley is key to get such a fresh red wine. Indeed, the drinkability of this Merlot is unique (in particular for a red grape) and it makes the wine very versatile for food matchings.
Because of his service in the war, the Emperor Ferdinand III gave Locatelli Locatelli 300 fields in an area of Cormns.
That area called Langoris was indeed part of the Hapsburg Empire.
From this time on, the quiet woods, green hills and gentle vineyards to the Tenuta di Angoris became a retreat.
And this both for the royal families and the lite from throughout the Hapsburg Empire.
Villa Locatelli, which still dominates the estate, became a symbol of quality and hospitality.
