Maison Trnel Beaujolais Villages reveals a bright, deep ruby colour with purple highlights. The nose bursts with vibrant red fruits like strawberries and redcurrants, delicately blended with floral hints of roses and peonies. On the palate, it offers a refined structure and soft, silky tannins, delivering lively energy and a long-lasting aromatic finish. Best served chilled between 13-15C, this wine pairs beautifully with roast veal with mushrooms, skirt steak with shallots, or classic beef bourguignon. It also has a cellar potential of 3 to 4 years for those of us with patience.

About the Producer

Founded in 1928 by Henri Claudius Trnel, Maison Trnel is one of the most ancient and well-known houses of the Beaujolais and the Macon wine regions of France. For nearly a century, the house has had the great fortune of working with vineyards which are superbly situated and judiciously farmed. These vines consistently yield very high-quality fruit. For example, some of the vines for Trnels Beaujolais-Villages are upwards of 60 years of age.

Maison Trnel is guided by the principles of authenticity of fruit, and authenticity of terroir. The house has always strived to produce wines and fruit liqueurs that exemplify the purest expression of their origins. This sentiment is born from a love of the land, as well as a deep respect and continued practice of Burgundian traditions. It also informs the houses work ethic, written in Latin and evidenced on Maison Trnels emblem: Bene Facit Id Quod Bene Amat, or we can only succeed at that which we know well, and love.

In 2015 Maison Trnel was bought by M. CHAPOUTIER torenew focus on highlighting the differences between different vineyard sites and terroirs, the wines from Maison Trnel continue to reach even greater heights.

Vineyard and Winery

The 38 villages that make up the Beaujolais Villages appellation offer distinguished wines full of character. The majority of Beaujolais Villages from Maison Trenel come from the Le Perron and Clochermerle sectors located in the south of the appellation. The region’s hilly landscapes are ideal for the Gamay Noir Jus Blanc, which expresses itself wonderfully in this wine. The vine age is generally between 30 and 60 years depending on the plots. The soils are perfect for the Gamay grape consisting of granitic sandy loam and the vines face south and east for ideal sunlight and warmth.

Hand-harvest is followed by an 8-10 day maceration of the grapes, 30% of which are destemmed. The wine is then aged for 6 months in concrete vats before being unfined and lightly filtered before bottling.
