Badia a Passignano Gran Selezione is crafted exclusively from Sangiovese grapes grown in the estates historic vineyard in the heart of Chianti Classico. The estate sits above Sambuca Val di Pesa, just three kilometers from Tenuta Tignanello.
The vineyards, planted on limestone-rich clay soils at 250300 meters elevation, benefit from ideal sun exposure and natural drainage, producing grapes of remarkable concentration and balance. The wine matures in the centuries-old cellars beneath the abbey of Passignano, a site with a deep-rooted winemaking tradition.
The 2021 growing season was long and steady, with mild winter temperatures, temperate spring, and hot, dry summer days, followed by cool nights in September and October that allowed the grapes to ripen gradually, developing vibrant aromatics and balanced acidity.
Following harvest, grapes were carefully destemmed and gently crushed, then fermented for roughly ten days with extended maceration to extract structure and flavour. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged in French and Hungarian oak before bottling.
On the nose, the wine is brimming with notes of ripe cherries, orange zest, violets, roses and a hint of vanilla. The palate is full and lively, layered with supple tannins that lead into a persistent, elegant finish.This wine makes an excellent pairing for roasted or braised meats, game, hearty pasta, and mature cheeses. Drink 2027-2051.
