Launched in 2014, Bobbys Gin is named after grandfather, Jacobus Alfons, known to his friends and family as Bob or Bobby. He migrated from Indonesia to the Netherlands in 1950, and began infusing Dutch genever with the familiar taste of home, which was the humble beginnings of Bobbys Dry Gin.

Fast forward a few years to 2012, and it was then that his grandson Sebastiaan van Bokkel found an old bottle of this Indonesian-Dutch fusion. He was inspired by the story, having wanted to create his own spirit for a while. He met with the seventh generation master distiller of Herman Jansen, and they began working together. After two years, the final product was finally born. The packaging sees a modern reinterpretation of a classic jenever bottle adorned with a traditional Indonesian Ikat pattern.

Pinang Raci literally translates as a mishmash of spices. Grandfather Jacobus Bobby Alfons, the inspiration and namesake of Bobbys Gin, was well known for skilfully infusing Dutch jenever with spices that reminded him of home: Naku on the island of Ambon. As a result, he created and spiced up his own jenever!

Pinang Raci Spice Blend No.1 celebrates the flavours of grandfather Bobbys birthplace Naku on Moluccan spice island Ambon, in a contemporary Schiedam Dry Gin of 2022. An aromatic gin full of vibrant, warming notes of daun salam, turmeric and galangal – supported by ginger, sweet orange, cloves, cinnamon, lemongrass, cubeb pepper, coriander, and juniper.

Tasting Notes

There is a cooling sensation, which comes from the daun salam and lemongrass. As the gin warms in the mouth more flavours develop. Sweet orange and coriander, join with juniper. Floral notes blend with the ginger and galangal as a backing flavour. It has an oily mouth feel, which coats the mouth perfectly imparting all these delicious flavours.

Perfect Serve

Drink with premium Indian tonic or ginger ale garnished with a clove studded orange wedge. This makes a great twist on a Gimlet cocktail.
