Lucas Bolss first genever was produced in 1664. Traditionally drunk straight and called Dutch Courage, genever played a part in the rise of the cocktail in the 19th century in America, when one in four cocktails were made with genever, thanks to its smooth malty taste. Nowadays Lucas Bols is the number 1 genever player in the world with Bols Genever, Bols Genever Barrel-Aged, Bols Genever 21 and a portfolio of local Dutch traditional genevers. The US, the Netherlands, Russia, the UK, Japan and Australia are the most important markets for Bols Genevers.
Bols Genever is the original Dutch spirit, created from lightly distilled Dutch grains and a complex botanical mix. It is made according to the original 1820 Lucas Bols recipe which stood at the basis of the cocktail revolution in 19th century America. It is the high content of a unique grain distillate called malt wine that gives Bols genever its characteristic smooth malty taste, making it perfect for mixing and making cocktails, such as the original Collins.
Bols Genever Barrel Aged is a premium production of Bols Genever that is stored in oak casks for a minimum period of 18 months. This aging process gives Bols Genever Barrel Aged its pale golden colour and rich, oaky, sweet flavour: perfect for enjoying straight or on the rocks or in a classic cocktail.
