Chereau Carre Muscadet is a big wine with big minerally flavours of the sea, air & vegetation finishing with a crisp punchy smoky edge – yeehaa!
One of the leading Muscadet producers with substantial family owned vineyards in some of the best locations of the region.
The different terroirs owned allows Bernard to offer wines unique in style and differing qualities, – so forget the cheap pretenders to the Muscadet crown, try a wine that grabs you by the scruff of the neck and shakes you around the room – if you dare!
Chereau Carre Muscadet : The House of Chereau Carre occupies the most privileged position in the Loire-Atlantique department of France. http://www.chereau-carre.co.uk/our-story/
This family-owned property dates back to the 15th century. The vines here are some of the most prized in the region of the Sevre-et-Maine.
“Our winery, created in 1960, produces high quality Muscadet Svre et Maine.
Our wines have always been produced on the finest schist terroirs in the appellation, using the best vinification techniques, including harvesting by hand, aging on lees and letting the wine age in the bottle.
We rest on the quality of our terroir to create various Cuves.
Chreau-Carr is also a family story. Today, two generations work closely together to run the four wine producing estates.”
Our family settled in the Muscadet region in the 15th century. In 1953 Bernard Chreau Senior bought the Chteau de Chasseloir a superb farm with 25 hectares of vines in an ideal location on the Cteau de la Maine in Saint Fiacre.
Shortly afterwards, he married Edmonde Carr whose family owned the Chteau lOiselinire de la Rame in Vertou, at the confluence of the Svre and Maine rivers.
The 10-hectare estate entered the Chreau-Carr family heritage.
The Chreau Carr wine company was set up in 1960. It brings together four properties, including Chteau de Chasseloir and Chteau de lOiselinire.
Two other properties were bought later: Chteau de la Chesnaie and the Bois Bruley estate in Basse Goulaine, on the outskirts of Nantes.
Today we farm 135 hectares of vines, all on wonderful schist, mica schist and orthogneiss terroirs in the Muscadet Svre et Maine sur lie appellation.
Work continues to be done by the family, as we now have the third generation involved in cultivating and producing high quality Muscadet wines every year.
