“My wife Edwina is a fourth generation Western Australian. Her ancestors, migrated from England and settled in Frankland River in the mid 1800s. They planted the first vines on the banks of the river in 1875. Im a first generation Australian. My uncles and aunts pressed grapes on their farms and in their backyards, and my own family at one time had a small vineyard, its clear where my interest in wine originated. We met in 1994, the same year I graduated with a degree in horticulture. As I was starting my work in wine, we were also embarking on our life journey.

Edwina and I purchased our first parcel of land in Frankland River in 2004 with dreams of planting our own vineyard. It was a small parcel that had originally been part of a large, historic land holding called Riversdale.

A few years later we had the opportunity to buy the neighbouring vineyard, and acres of prime river and vineyard country. We didnt hesitate as we knew its potential. Cherubino Wines began in our spare room in 2005 with the release of one wine.

Vineyards

Grapes picked from two sub regions or Margaret River; Wilyabrupis moderated by the winds from the Indian Ocean. This northern sub region of Margaret River has higher average temperatures than the southern end, where theKarridalesub-region is moderated by the Southern Ocean and hence cooler. It is one of the best examples of a maritime climate in Australia.

Vinification

93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec,3% Cabernet Franc.

Fruit was hand-picked and crushed to static, stainless steel fermenters via the sorting table.

Fermentation lasted for three weeks with gentle maceration. The time on skins allowed for softening of the tannins. Components were aged for 10 months in a combination of new and 1-2 year old French oak barrels prior to blending and bottling.

Tasting Notes

Inky purple. Classic Cabernet aroma of blackcurrant. The wine is medium bodied with primary flavours of blackcurrant and bay leaf, layered with secondary cedar and chocolate. Velvety soft tannins and a long finish.

Drink with braised lamb shoulder.
