The wines luminous pink hue makes it immediately identifiable as a Provence wine. White peach, hawthorn flowers and citrus notes make for a beautifully refined nose, while the wine is suave, intensely and elegantly structured on the palate leading onto a long, delicate and fresh finish. When enjoyed young, Chteau La Mascaronne Ros is delightful before or with a meal. But it is also marvellous after several years of ageing, a more unusual feat for a ros wine. Pair it with seafood & shellfish, salads and white meats.
Chateau La Mascaronne is located in rolling hills just outside the Medieval village of Le Luc. It lies half way between the Provenal towns of Brignoles and Frjus, with St Tropez to the south-east and Chateau Miraval close by. Recognising the great potential of La Mascaronne’s renowned terroir, the domaine was purchased by Tom Bove in 1999, (at the time he also owned the nearby Chteau Miraval), and the renaissance of the domaine began.
Located on a hillside at the highest point of the estate, La Mascaronnes sixty hectare vineyard is a single, continuous plot of land surrounded by oak and olive trees. It sits in a sumptuous ring-shaped site, mostly composed of clay-limestone soils. At an elevation of three hundred meters, it enjoys a unique microclimate:at night, it is constantly cooler than on the shore. Certified organic since 2016, the vineyards orientation brings natural ventilation that favours the healthy development of its grapes. The amount of sunshine and rain and average temperatures are never excessive, providing ideal conditions for the vine to thrive. The winemaker Nathalie Longefay is particularly keen on indigenous varieties for the white and ross (with Grenache, Cinsault and Rolle to the fore) but broadens the perspective a little for the reds, which Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvdre, Syrah and Grenache here dominate. All of the fruit is domaine-sourced and estate-bottled. The wines are organic, limited in production and uniformly excellent.
Convinced by the potential of La Mascaronne, Michel Reybier purchased the estate in 2020. He is also the owner of Cos dEstournel, a Second Growth in Saint-Estphe, Domaine Imprial Tokaj-Htszl, the Jeeper champagne house and La Rserve hotels in Paris, Geneva, Zurich and Ramatuelle. Under his guidance and stewardship this exquisite estate is certainly in safe hands.
Chteau La Mascaronne Ros is an exceptionally fresh, balanced and organic Provence Ros that expresses all the qualities of the terroir from which it is produced. It derives its quality not only from the grape varieties that comprise its blend but also from the soils on which the estates grapevines are planted. The blend for this ros consists of Grenache (35%), Cinsault (35%), Syrah (20%) and Vermentino (10%) grapes, typical Provence varieties, which are all harvested at the height of ripeness.
