Sotol, like Tequila, is a kind of mezcal, but the similarity ends there. Produced in northern Mexico, the sotol plant known as the ‘desert spoon’, this centuries-old drink has been made by the Anazasis and Tarahumara tribes for more than 800 years. Today, Hacienda de Chihuahua extracts the sotol plant from nature, preserving its organic and natural character creating anextremely smooth and fresh, authentic flavour.
Hacienda de Chihuahua Sotol Reposado is extracted from 100% wild Sotol plant then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels to give it the distinctive golden colour and spicy oak notes.
Tasting Note: “The Sotol bouquet begins with an exciting flavour, more floral than herbal, more vanilla; a little spicy; the middle stage passes without diminishment in aromatic strength, while the essence of vanilla and oak deepens, and the floral aspect fades. The end result is harmony and elegance. There is an under estimating complexity in Hacienda de Chihuahuas Sotol that other spirits do not possess, intriguingly different; on the palate, the entre flavour is exuberant, both regal and gentle, flavours of wood and fruit dry greet the palate – on the mid palate it becomes more herbal like the Sotol plant does, complete with light notes of pepper and mild dill; the remnant flavour is luxurious and long, deep vanilla and oak flavours delight the palate. To give it credit, it offers an alternative that is simultaneously complex and elegant. “
