Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia was introduced in 1997 and is made from fruit from younger vines, with a higher percentage of Merlot.

Nestled in the foothills near Bolgheri, the estate lies just a few kilometres from the Mediterranean coast. During the summer months, cool sea breeze caress the vineyards and nearby olive groves, while during the winter the hills provide protection from the cold north winds. The 115 hectares of vineyards benefit from a unique combination of maritime climate and a complex mosaic of marine, alluvial and volcanic soils. All the grapes are hand picked, de-stemmed and gently crushedbefore being fermented in stainless-steel vats, each variety separately. The wine is cellared for 15 months, blended after thefirst 12 months and then returned tobarrels for a furtherthree months. After bottling, Le Serre Nuove dellOrnellaia is aged for an additional six months prior to release.

Le Serre Nuove shows great freshness, ripe sweet tannins and superb concentration; it displays all the signs of a vintage with excellent ageing potential. As such this is a much anticipated release, especially after Bolgheri’s 5-star vintage rating. Winemaker Olga Fusari sees the 2021 vintage as one of exceptional quality thanks to it’s unique combination of fruit intensity, bright acidity and integrated tannic structure making it a truly memorable wine.

The product of a vintage that has proven to be high calibre and deeply satisfying, Le Serre Nuove dellOrnellaia 2021 allows the tannin qualities and balanced concentration to shine through. The wine displays a bright ruby red with the usual purple highlights in the glass. Refreshing on the nose with pink pepper and cypress berries aromas, which are reminiscent of the Mediterranean shrub. On tasting, the wine is elegant with a lovely acidity and an enduring and savoury finish, which entices further enjoyment. Olga Fusari Winemaker (April 2023)
