Leonard Road wines have been lovingly crafted by the Calabria family for three generations. After spending five years apart, in 1934 Francesco Calabria wrote to his wife, Elisabetta, in Italy and asked her to join him in Australia. Together, they built Calabria Wines at Villa 116 on Leonard Road. Today, Francesco and Elisabettas grandchildren continue the family tradition of winemaking.
Since the 1830s, when the first vine clippings were brought from France to Australia, Chardonnay has been grown country-wide. But it wasnt until the 1970s that Australian Chardonnay started to take center stage, now accounting for nearly half of the countrys white wine production.
Leonard Road Chardonnay highlights the best characteristics of New World Chardonnay, with a very mild creamy texture that is punched up by lively acidity, notes of lemon and hints of mineral. The nose is elegant and inviting with hints of sweet melon and stone fruits.We recommend serving with white sauce pastas, seafood or fresh figs and cheese.
