Artemis, named after the Greek goddess of the hunt, is a wine that truly reflects its name. The culmination of a hunt for the finest grapes from Napa Valley which, when combined with estate-grown fruit, combine to create a Cabernet Sauvignon that expresses the regional character of Napa Valley with the signature style of Stags Leap Wine Cellars. This approach results in a wine of lush fruit flavors balanced by extraordinary structure and elegance. This wine is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon with 1% Cabernet Franc, 0.5% Malbec and 0.5% Merlot. It was aged for 15 months in 33% new French Oak and 67% older French oak barrels. The wine was very lightly filtered at bottling.
Stags Leap is one of the undisputed icons of the Napa Valley. The winery was founded in 1970, and their 1973 Cabernet won the famous Judgement of Paris tasting, beating first- and second-growth bordeaux. Since then they have become one of the most lauded and sought-after wine producers anywhere in the world. The winery is located in the Stags Leap District, a small sub-division in the south-eastern Napa Valley known for producing particularly elegant, ageworthy wine. Over the last five decades, Stags Leap Wine Cellars have witnessed the dizzying proliferation of Napa Valley vineyards, yet amidst all their new neighbours have retained their own, compelling voice.
